Chughtai International Big Win: Standout Summer School Success Story

At Chughtai International School, Pakistan’s Premier IB Early Years Candidate School, every preschooler authors their own story — own time, own way. Some begin with a jumpstart. Others unfold gently — layer by layer, day by day, till one fine morning child progress becomes evident.

The first edition of our ‘best-in-Lahore’ Summer School earned the distinction of cultivating one such star learner. To the unversed, they may have appeared on the sidelines — but to us, brimming with promise. And over the next four weeks, together we achieved something extraordinary: a child in full bloom.

Week 1: A Gentle Nudge

Trust took the first few days to build. Observant, they faced the then unfamiliarity of Chughtai International Summer School with quiet strength. Switching a cookie for a sandwich to eat in the right order — for instance, a small act, but, for us, a major sign of flexibility.

Come midweek, preferences started being made clear: ‘I want to cook’. And, they got ample opportunity to — over a custom crack-an-egg activity. Later, during water play, a tumbler was demanded to undertake a thorough school cleansing. A sponge and sprinkler were insufficient. Early steps towards self-expression — full of intent.

Week 2: Roots, Routines and Rhythm

As the week began with plants, something took root in our rising star too. Gentle nudges were registered, peer engagement flowed, and social comfort started settling in. We keenly watched as they enthusiastically overwatered a sapling, attempted to climb a tree, explored compost zones, and tested Play Park routes. Each action bolder than the prior.

Hitherto unfamiliar activities — collage or karate — were given earnest tries. By Friday, iceberg lettuce was being confidently planted with single-minded focus. A rhythm began emerging — learning, activity and belonging.

Week 3: Self Expression and Agency

Come Week 3, our high-value learner wasn’t just participating — they were choosing. Bongos over gym. Playdough over coop runs. These weren’t just preferences. This was child-led agency at play right before our very own eyes.

New joy was discovered in naming people and structures: familiar faces, under construction landmarks, even voicing frustration when view was fleetingly blocked. Art brought out a one-of-a-kind aesthetic: colour work speaking volumes — one gradient flowing from blue to red to grab onlooker interest. Surprise animal visits left them mindful. Noise, for example, left songbirds at great risk. Every day now came with rising awareness, increasing curiosity, and budding confidence.

Week 4: Independence and Insight

The final Summer School stretch saw them shine — bright. They now understood classroom expectations —books belonged in the reading nook, win-win agreements were mutually beneficial, just when to step forward and help as per need. One gesture stood out: offering glue to a classmate first. An unassuming act of kindness — watershed in child development.

Even under weather, they pushed through. Retrieving purple from a sea of crayons, mixing own paint, and insisting on independent work. That insistence, however, now rooted in calm assurance.

On the final day, they powered through baking. Recognising staples, excitedly trying to guess what might be being made — ‘pizza? cupcakes? brownies?’ They helped measure, mix, layered ganache, decorated with choice goodies. A journey marked in distance was now a lesson in ownership.

A Thought to Takeaway

Some learner stories unfold with a bang. Others bloom in silence.

At Chughtai International School, we understand how growth in Early Childhood Education isn’t always loud — or immediate. More often, it inches forward, and not always in a straight line. At Summer School Season I, every participant felt safe, seen, and supported.

They didn’t just grow — they bloomed.
